'Back to Rwanda' nominated for Emmys

The series about the Rwandan genocide has been nominated for the International Emmys in the category 'Best Documentary'.

The five-part series is one of 44 nominees in 11 categories and twenty countries. 'Back to Rwanda' has been nominated in the Documentary category and has to compete against nominations from Colombia, the United Kingdom and South Korea. The program also previously won the Ha! Van Humo and a special mention at the Prix Europe.

The documentary commemorates the Rwandan genocide - 25 years ago in April - with personal stories. Each episode tells the personal story of people who experienced the genocide. People from the Rwandan diaspora travel to Rwanda again. Belgian cross-country champion Imana Truyers, among others, will visit her native country again. She is visiting her biological father for the first time.

The series aired on Canvas in 2019. Whether 'Back to Rwanda' will also win the Emmy will be announced on November 23 at the ceremony in New York City.
